I actually got several suggestions for the forum issues. One I thought was worth a shot. Basically, we've tried with and without moderators and neither made everyone happy.

Now, we're trying a system where we have two general discussion boards, one moderated, one not. It will be interesting to see which gets more use. It's a newly coded system, so if you run into problems let me know.

I've made the old G-Fed Discussion and The Locker Room visible to moderators. I think it should let you make the call on what should be moved into the new forums. I suggest moving all of the sticky threads into the moderated forum, otherwise we may lose control of them.

Perhaps there are better names than moderated / un-moderated for these forums, thoughts?

Moderated could just left General Discussion.

The unmoderated could be called Free-For-All

Who cares, the forums are gay and full of ridiculous antics from n00bs and egomaniacs that think this is all real.

We have our own discussion boards inside each fed, chat room as well. I say fuck the GFed forums. The only thing we need them for is to recruit. I mean...Oh darn, no more retarded comments and threads from Hybrid and woosck...oh no! lol

Now, I didn't read the entirety of the first announcement, and I only skimmed the comments in this one, but I do have a few things to say. I don't spend all my time on G-Fed. I'm a casual user, which means I go out and do things on a regular basis. I like to browse the forums leisurely and liberally, with all the anonymity of the internet. I personally think it's a shame that it's only a handful of people who are ruining the forums for the rest of us. I can't believe people actually sit here and flame the SHIT of each other. When it comes down to it, none of this is real. It's all imaginary, make-believe. Really, this is nothing to get worked up over.

The reason the forums didn't work was because they SUCKED. The moderators have no power to do anything. Oh, you can ban someone for two days. Oh, you can move this post. Big deal. What's to stop someone from creating another account and making the same post over and over and over again?

On Gametalk, I was a moderator. That site was practically an open, registration-free message board. Hundreds of forums, thousands of users, and only a handful of moderators. The difference was we had the power to actually DO something. We could DELETE posts. We could ban names for unlimited amounts of time, we could ban their IP addresses so they couldn't create a new account and come back. Yeah, there were issues about this person being "power-hungry" or "corrupt", but those problems will surface wherever you have moderators. Usually, someone is just saying that because they either don't like said moderator, or didn't agree with a decision they made. Really, it's not our place to jump all over them for a decision they made; after all, they are (hopefully) looking out for the best interests of everyone.

If there was a half-decent system in place here there wouldn't be these problems. If moderators actually had the power to do something, things might be different. Sure, some people are still going to whine and bitch and complain, but the difference is the rest of us wouldn't have to hear about it.

If moderators had the power to ban for greater lengths of time up until indefinitely, that would be ideal.

With that structure of banning, then you'll be able to set up rules and guidelines. And trolls will actually be taken off the site once and for all. That's half of the flaming that goes on around here.

Just a random comment, but Brian you can never make everyone happy. People will always troll, that is what the internet and anonymity causes. People are going to do what they want out of spite, trying to be funny, or just plain trying to be mean and trying to make everyone happy is just going to exhaust you.

And I agree with what he said also. I use to be a "Super User" for a telnet chat a few years back and we were given a crap load of things that I never used. Maybe, instead of just Moderators, we should a group of people with various levels of "mod" abilities. But, then, that would be with who was trusted with what, so I'm not sure how that would help.

Forums or just a place to talk. I say let everyone say whatever they want to say and let it be. If you get annoyed by something then maybe when you block these people they should have the ability to block what they post on the forums so they never see it. Sorta like how Facebook has their blocking method set up.

Hell, I don't know anymore.

Maybe they can make those old boards like the flamewars, where you can still view the old threads but not post and such...just a thought.
