Handler Interviewed: Compton Effect

Icemann Rankings Service: I would thank-you for taking the time out of your ever-so-busy schedule to do this, but it was in-fact I taking the time out for you. So, you're welcome.

Compton Effect: laughs

Pleasure is mine.

IRS: You've been a G-Fed regular for about, what, a year now? What are some of the difference, and what are some of the similarities, between the G-Fed you joined and G-Fed in its current incarnation?

CE: Like you said, I've only been RPing for a year so I can't cry about how awesome GFed used to be 5-6 years ago like everyone else, but I've seen a few changes. There seems to be a lot less competition at the top. When I first came, you had ACW and PWR-1 battling for the top spot, both being great all-round feds. Other than the decline in feds at the top of the (albeit broken) value system which are any good, I'd say people are generally required to put in less effort in. Weekly rp requirements have been cut down, which is a good thing in my book. There also seems to [be] less flaming and controversy, which is a shame. Perhaps with Journey returning, we can see that return though.

IRS: I see you're as long-winded in your responses as you are in your roleplays.

Going back to you just starting to roleplay about a year ago, what got you interested in efedding in general? How did it come about?

CE: Park bothering me over a period of months until he finally broke down my resolve and got me to try fedding out. Short enough for you? smiles

IRS: Sure it was.

At this very moment, there seems to be some controversy with TEW, a fed you're apart in, in which the former owner is being accused strongly of being a graphics thief- your thoughts on the situation?

CE: I don't mind Sloan, I think he's a good guy who occasionally takes himself too seriously.

About the situation... it doesn't really bother me, I think everyone's super serious reactions are quite funny. I suppose it'd annoy me more though if I did a lot of graphics. Maybe I'd appreciate the work people put in. Or maybe I still wouldn't give a shit. Yeah, the second one.

IRS: Fair enough. Speaking of TEW and the drama that they're going through currently, I was thinking that perhaps your claims of an "IRS Curse" aren't that invalid. Do you fear for the next fed or handler to receive a number-one ranking? Do you find it amusing? Or is it all a matter of coincidence?

CE: laughs

I'd forgotten about that. I first came up with that when you put me number-one...I quit for a little while afterwards...then Park [was number-one]...[which he then] killed his character...then [when GWF was number-one] GWF ["literally"] blew up and then [when GSWA was number-one, Piff] gave GSWA to Seles a few weeks after [and then quit G-Fed].

When I think about it, you also have Seles at the top of the IRS at the moment and he's calling it a day with GSWA and like you said, TEW just went through a bad patch. So yeah, I think the curse is very much alive.

IRS: laughs

Before G-Fedding, what did Compton Effect do to occupy his online time?

CE: ...porn...

...oh and various forums. That's how I knew some of the GFed guys actually. I've known Park for around 3 years and Iser around 5.

IRS: Remind me not to shake your hand. Anywho, so I take it you, Iser, and Park are really close?

CE: I suppose you could say that... in a less homoerotic way. But yeah, I've probably known Iser longer than some of my real life friends.

IRS: ...

CE: ...oh... I've known Sync for a while too. Forgot to mention him.

IRS: I've been told by a few people that you're quite homosexual, and often fantasize about some of the G-Fedders you've come into online contact with. So, would you care to disprove those rumors?

CE Those pictures are photoshopped. Although I do love Crisis. Not in a gay way though, in the way crazy people claim to love God.

IRS: ...Not that there is anything wrong with homosexuals (hi Dreamlover!), I was just forwarding the information.

Anyway, you're currently in TEW and GWF. A while back, the two were 'rivals' to a degree that a flamewar was often started between the two. What are your thoughts on the past-feud, and what made you choose those two feds to be apart of? Why didn't you stay in GSWA?

CE: I took a few weeks off when GWF closed the first time. I decided to rejoin GSWA shortly after, but piffin [sic] left and the fed went downhill. So I decided to take more time off [and] got bored of that, [so I] joined TEW. GWF re-opened so I didn't want to miss out on re-joining it. So I signed up and that's how I came to be in those two feds.

IRS: You never answered the first part of the question: what are your thoughts on the past-feud that GWF and TEW had?

CE Yeah I dodged that question because I don't like to get involved in the fed drama.

laughs

I enjoyed it to be honest. There were lots of people with massive egos to shoot down, it was really fun. The highlight for me though was 40 oz vomiting threats on his radio segment, which I wish I could find a link to. I've noticed people on G-Fed tend to be funnier when they're not trying to be funny at all.

IRS: Which G-Fedders do you have the most respect for? Which do you have the least amount of respect for? Why for both?

CE: Hmmm, anyone who shows any real work ethich really. I don't respect people who are creative/intelligent as much, because that doesn't really take effort- it's just something that you are. It'd be like respecting someone for their hair colour. Anyway, with that in mind I'd say MrParayste who puts huge effort into critiquing RPs, yourself for the same reason (I just bumped my spot on the IRS this month, lol), TheMichael for ignoring any hate and running a good fed in spite of it, Hametic for the work that goes into his shows and the uniqueness of them and James Anderson for the three reasons I mentioned. As for the latter... I don't really disrespect anyone. If you forced me I'd say people who purposefully try to ruin a fed. If I didn't mention anyone it's because I forgot you. Or that I don't respect you. Yeah, the second one.

IRS: ...

CE: Oh, I have more people for the people I don't respect list. People who complain about the lack of creativity in GFed and then don't join Pardox City/that other super hero fed/MMA feds/any other original fed. The way I see it, they're projecting their own lack of creativity on to GFed.

IRS: Besides G-Fed, what are five other sites that you frequently visit?

CE: Cracked, CollegeHumor, YouTube, PirateBay and erm... BBC Sport probably.

IRS: I was just trying to give the reader an idea of what Compton Effect looks at for a good time. Let's move back onto G-Fed...

...I ask this question a lot because I am generally interested in what people think...so, what is your take on forum moderation? Do you believe the forums should be moderated more? Less? Do you think Brian, Dan, and/or the rest of the G-Fed Admin team should 'hire' some forum regulars to help moderate?

CE: Nope, not at all. I love the forums as they are, without censorship. It's one of the few boards I know of that doesn't have a swear filter, despite being viewed by youngsters. I like that personally, there's a lot more freedom on GFed than on most boards and I think that would have the potential to be ruined by mods.

IRS: So, you're completely content with [constant spammers and people who want to do nothing but troll and flame, with no other, or very little other, purpose?

CE: Yeah for the most part. But you've gotta remember you'll be wading through the babbling of idiots wherever you post on the internet, it just goes with the territory. We hardly see any spam anyway, so I don't think that's a problem really and the name 'Woosck' next to a post is a tell-tale sign it'll be flaming. I think it's easy enough to avoid and if we did implement moderators some genuinely interesting topics would be thrown out with the rubbish. But I don't really want to get into a debate on censorship.

laughs

IRS: No debate was intended, just wanted your opinion on the moderator topic. There have been recent talks about G-Fed 1-2-and-3.0- you weren't around during those earlier versions of G-Fed, but you're here now. What do you think of the talent on G-Fed these days?

CE: groans

It's not terrible, but I think a lot of people are over rated and I'd include myself in that category. It seems that there are so many people that are incapable of stringing a sentence together that the people who are actually just decent writers look fantastic in comparison. There are some trends I don't like as well, such as the verbosity in RPs (although I've had a hand in that) and the massive word count on some RPs now.

That said though, I think everyone is good at something and there is a lot of talent out there. Park for example can write a good story while Slater's RPs are ridiculously immersive. Of course, no one will ever capture the level of writing Crisis did so I guess it's all futile in the end.

IRS: I'm glad you mentioned Crisis, because I wanted to ask you what your opinion was on him, and I wanted an answer more in-depth than a Word Association could allow. So...what do you really think of, "The Messiah of Writing?"

CE: It's difficult really, I don't think there are any words that really do his genious justice. I'll have to coin one... how about Crisisian. Yeah that's good enough. It's an adjective meaning, "to excel at everything you do, every time you do it."

IRS: I sense a bit of sarcasm...

CE: I wouldn't say sarcasm, perhaps tongue in cheek. I haven't really read enough of his stuff to comment, but when I first came to GFed, the number of people kissing his ass was insane. So I'm taking the piss out of them really, not Crisis.

IRS: Awhile back, you joined Steel City Wrestling, and was prepared to team with Shane? What went wrong there?

CE: Yeah, when I joined I said I was only there to RP as part of a tag team and if Shane left, I'd do the same. Needless to say he left.

IRS: Is there anyone you would like to work with now that you have not had the chance to work with before, whether it be as a team or an opponent?

CE: Seth Iser for certain. Other than that, anyone considered 'great' really. You know the kind of people, I won't rattle off a list. As a team, I'm happy working with Slater at the moment, which is fantastic for me really. When is IRS getting a tag team ranking section anyway?

laughs

IRS: laughs

There's a lot that would have to happen before IRS opens a tag team section in the rankings. But I'm asking the questions here, bub. Recently Outer Limits proposed on expanding G-Fed with different subsections of feds, such as an MMA section and a Creative Writing section, and so on; what are your thoughts to this idea?

CE: It's not really my thing, so it doesn't interest me. I could see why it'd be a good thing though.

IRS: Brian and his friends just did a wonderful thing with the Mario Marathon for charity, bringing in a total of over $28,000. Because of the success that they had with that, do you think that they'll ever give renewed interest to improving G-Fed, or do you think they'll only use G-Fed as an advertising tool for other projects?

CE: Neither really. I just see it being used as a means to make a profit. People pay for G-Credits regardless of a lack of features. They fix the site when it has faults, but beyond that, why bother adding updates if people will pay regardless?

IRS: Alright, time to wrap with up with a little Word Association, which I know you've been dying to do. Ready?

CE: Set.

IRS: ...I'm not going to say, "go." Shoot! I just did.

Mike Park?

CE: Feet.

IRS: Shane?

CE: Wasted talent. The dude COULD be great.

IRS: Crisis?

CE: Crisisian.

IRS: Icemann?

CE: "Hasn't roleplayed since 2004."

IRS: Matt Slater?

CE: ACW: U.

IRS: ACW?

CE: Devine.

IRS: Hametic?

CE: Sloan's best friend.

IRS: James Anderson?

CE: Sloan's second best friend.

IRS: Scott Sloan?

CE: Sloan's biggest fan.

IRS: GFedWrestling.com?

CE: Woosck.

IRS: John Woosck?

CE: ferri gerl

IRS: Icemann Rankings Service?

CE: Curse.

IRS: That's about it- you're welcome for my time. Anything else you'd like to add before you go?

CE: Free Tibet.
